Broken Air Conditioner & Heater? Most Common Problems & Solutions To Your HVAC System

If there is one thing that we cannot control while living in this world, it’s the weather. There was a time when we can predict ourselves when seasons come and go. We can also predict when the rain or snow comes as well as the time of blistering heat. However, it is quite ironic that in this time when there is already meteorologists on TV and advanced technology on weather forecasting that our predictions might be quite off. Read more about this here. This is why most people would want an HVAC system in their homes as you can’t predict anymore when the weather can be hot or cold.

Why You Need HVAC

One of the benefits of having a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system in their homes is that you can control the temperature in your house. Here in Virginia, we experience diverse weather conditions throughout the year. An HVAC would solve all those problems since all you need to do is choose a setting that is right for you and you can enjoy that in a few minutes. Is it raining too hard outside? You can enjoy toasty warmth even without a fireplace with an HVAC. Making a home more comfortable to live in is one of the best parts of having such a system.

However, as these are man-made machines, they can encounter various problems. Most of it is due to a lack of knowledge on how to use these properly. Yes, you know how to turn it on and off but that is not enough for a rather complicated system to fix. You need to know what is wrong before it gets even worse. For example, what’s worse during a heatwave? It’s a malfunctioning air conditioning system, especially if you have one that just makes everything worse. This is why it is important for you to even just know the basics like cleaning your HVAC system properly.

On the other hand, there are problems that are not cause of neglect or lack of care. HVAC systems are just like any other machine, after all. You can always call on any HVAC repair companies in your area like DM Select Services – Fredericksburg, Virginia. You may also want to try and fix it first.

Common Problems You May Encounter and How To Fix Them

1. Leaking Unit

This is one of the most common problems for any HVAC unit, especially the older ones as they tend to have malfunctioning parts inside due to its age. The leaks can also cause damage to anything around it with enough time and it can stain your floors as well.

One of the most common causes of this problem might be a broken condensate pump. This is the part where the cold temperature is generated by your system. You can buy a new condensate pump but make sure you read the manuals of your HVAC before you try and replace it. Better yet, consult an expert or just hire one to let them replace it for you. Another cause of this problem is a clogged filter. In this case, remove the filter and clean it up until all the dirt has been removed. Dry it well and put it back where it belongs.

2. Noisy or Vibrating Unit

This problem is also quite common with older HVAC models but it can happen to new ones as well. If the entire unit is vibrating along with its supporting system, then there must be something wrong with how it was installed. If you installed it on your own, then try to remove it and adjust anything that will make it unbalanced like an uneven part of where you installed it. Some of the screws that are holding all of it together might be loose so you might need to open the system up and try to find it. Usually, it’s the motor that can easily be dislocated from its original position because it’s constant vibration. Read more about HVAC systems here:

3. On and Off System Broken

With this case, you might want to check the switches and try replacing them. There can also be a problem with the power source; you might want to check if electricity is flowing properly to the system. You can check that by attaching another device to the outlet in question. If that one is working properly, the evaporator must be the problem. You can try cleaning it but it is generally advise to contact a repair person immediately.
